Fix The Process

This blog is about fixing the best political system in the world. First thing we should do is get the money out of the system. How? A couple of simple rules.

1. Only people can contribute to a campaign. No PACs, politcal parties, other campaign funds, unions, businesses, etc. If it is not a person, you cannot contribute.

2. Only registered voters in the election district can contribute to a campaign. Why should someone who lives in New York be able to contribute to an Illinois campaign.

3. Campaigns can only spend money on things like advertising, signs, etc. They must also expend all funds during the campaign. Funds remaining 3 months after the election are given to the body in charge of the election to offset the cost of the election.

4. Limit campaigns to specific time frames. The larger the election district, the longer the campaign. Nothing longer than 18 months and nothing shorter than 3 months. This means we get a break and the politicians are not collecting money a week after the election. You can collect money on day one of the campaign and see above for how the funds are handled after.

5. Those who wish to advocate a certain position or value may do so but they cannot mention a candidate by name or implication. Yes, this means candidates are going to have to take a position!! No endorsements or other garbage. This keeps the campaign about the issue rather than the misleading crap we've had for years!

6. Term limits. Four 2 year terms, 2 four or six year terms. This will help get rid of the career politician.

7. No primaries. I don't understand why they exist in the first place. If you can get X number of signatures, you're on the ballot. I don't want to hear about how this will let the nuts or crooks on the ballot. Look at what we've had recently if you think the political parties are doing us any favors.
